One year ago, at the age of 33, Dustin was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Unfornately, the diagnosis came just weeks after his first son, Cade, was born. Dustin has an amazing support system with his wife of many years and extended family. Still the last year has been a significant turmoil as he has battled chemotherapy, radiation, and clinical trials. More recently Dustin was in the hospital fighting blood clots and infection.
Dustin continues to fight this horrible diease with the love and support of his family. In honor of his efforts I plan to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer through running with Project Purple, a non profit organization with the goal of raising funds toward a cure for pancreatic cancer. Project Purple also offers assistant to people like Dustin who are battling this disease.
More research on pancreatic cancer is so badly needed because pancreatic cancer is the least funded of all the top cancers even though it has a single digit survival rate after 5 years. More research and awareness is greatly needed and Project Purple is here to help!
I have always been an avid runner, but more recently have become interested in running utlra marathons. So far this summer I ran Barton Creek 50k in June, Tahoe Rim Trail 50 miler in July and plan to take on Castle Peak 100k (yes this is 62 miles) on August 29th. I never thought running ultra marathons would ever be possible, but Dustin's strength and courage has inspired me to try and run father than I ever have! He continues to fight so I will continue to run and raise awareness! We have to find a cure to this horrible disease for Dustin and for all those afflicted with your support I hope someday we can!
