Beauregard Likes To Run!
Organized by: Michael Rondeau
This is not a sad story at all. My name is Mike and I promised my son a dog. We scoured the rescue sites for just the right one. I live in NC and found our doggie online in a rescue in Alabama. I showed my wife a picture of Beauregard and told her I would be going to Alabama after work to get him. It was a 12 hour drive but I never doubted for a second he was going to be the doggie for us. The lady met me in a parking lot and handed him to me. He laid his head on my shoulder and I was even more impressed that I was drawn to him from 800 miles away. I put him in my SUV and when I got in I found he was so dirty. Waste matted in his hair. He must have been in a crate for so long in his own waste. I vowed to never crate him. I stopped down the street and asked at the Petsmart if they would bathe him. They could not because I did not have vet records. I bought some dog shampoo and some toys and headed down the street to the next gas station. I washed and brushed him in the parking lot and he was so happy to be clean. Soon I found that he also was quite sick having the runs but always asked me to stop. He never made a sound, only looked at me with a look that said, "gotta poo Dad!". We slept in the back of my SUV that night and he was so comfortable. I woke up to him just sitting there waiting for me to wake up. I got him home just in time to catch my son before school and present him with his new doggie. We have had Beau for about 7 months now. He was quite sick with parasites and worms but is fully healthy now. We are so overwhelmed with how much we love this dog. We had to join a Facebook group just so we can gush about him! Anyway, we do not have a fenced yard and we have read that if we get him fixed before he is 2 that he may get hip and joint problems when he is older (he is about 1 now) and because he is not fixed yet he tends to bolt. We take him to the dog park as often as we can and there is a fenced baseball field that I take him to every day so he can chase his frisbee, munch clumps of grass and run like the wind. We walk him about 10 times a day (mostly me, the boy loves having the dog but not so much the walking or playing with him). It would be great if we could fence in our back yard for Beau. We have a homeowner's association so the fence has to match. They cost in the range of $5000. I work and so does my wife but we only keep up with the bills at this point with medical bills getting more expensive along with everything else getting more expensive and wages staying the same. We are happy but tired.....mostly me! I walk Beau, play with him and bathe him. I take him for at least one car ride a day and play with him constantly. Beau smiles he is so happy and we are to but surely would like to just let him outside in the yard. I know this is not the most noble fundraising attempt but no matter what it is a happy story! Thank you so much, Mike
