BENEFITING: This Star Wont Go Out Inc
EVENT DATE: Sep 18, 2016
Hello Awesome People!
First off, thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I am ecstatic to be running the Fox Valley Marathon in September, and raising funds for a charity called "This Star Won't Go Out," which supports families financial needs when their child has cancer.
This Star Won't Go Out (TSWGO) is a unique charity that allows families to be freed from the financial burdens of everyday expenses. The charity was launched by the parents of a young, eccentric, and memorable 16 year-old Esther Earl, who left a legacy before she passed from thyroid cancer. The funds raised may be used on rent/mortgage payments, food, traveling, and other costs of living that cannot be ignored. Providing these funds allows the child to spend more time with family, and families to spend more quality time with their child battling cancer. A gift of money, means more time with a loved one, and that is a priceless gift to give.
Why I chose TSWGO:
Every day, millions of people are suffering from the life-altering and life-long toils of a cancer diagnosis. Millions more may be indirectly affected by the financial, medical support, and emotional strain that cancer brings. I love the mission of TSWGO because my family and I are one of the millions affected by cancer. In 2014, my father, Jim Schuck, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Unfortunately there is no guarantee of any cancer cure, and after a year of battling, he eventually passed. Reflecting back on our experience, I couldn't imagine a family battling the same fight with their young child. Now my mission is to assist these families that are more vulnerable to the financial hardships associated with cancer treatments.
For a long time, running has been an integral part of my life personally, with friends, with family, and most importantly, with my dad. I remember my dad not missing one track or cross country race in high school, nor the long-distance races he could attend in college. Therefore, I will continue to run in honor of him and the beautiful person he represented. The Fox Valley Marathon is located in the streets of my home town, where my running career began.
Thank you so so so so much for reading my profile and considering a donation! I appreciate any kind of donation you can offer!
In the words of Esther and Jim: STAY AWESOME and LIVE YOUR LIFE :)
