Becoming a veterinarian - a life long dream
Organized by: Jessica Schumacher
Hi! I'm Jessica, from small town Nebraska. I grew up on a farm where my grandparents taught me how to care animals of all kinds, especially horses. Including standing on a straw bale to learn how to artificially inseminate horses, as a young girl! I have always had a soft spot in my heart for all animals. This all came to reality when my uncle was hauling my horse to a 4-H event in his horse trailer. Unbeknownst to us, the movement of the horse caused the horse to go through a weak spot in the trailer floor. The horse was dragged several feet down a gravel road with her legs poking through the floor of the horse trailer. My uncle noticed something wasn't right and stopped the truck. We got out, and In complete horror, I saw my best friend, Hotrodder, with her hooves dangling from her legs. She kept trying to stand and couldn't. We had to put her down because I cound's afford the medical bills and the vet said she would never be able to run barrels again. I've been through a lot (parents with drug addiction and abuse) in my short young years and this was by far the worst thing I ever endured. My dream is to care for animals and use my experiences to be a caring, knowledgable veterinarian and to be sympathetic to their owners pain when reality hits. I will be a great veterinarian because of my childhood experiences, good and bad. I've been accepted into a college, but I cannot afford all of the books and tuition it will take. I am asking you to open your heart and help me achieve my goals and dreams to be a successful member of society. Thank you for reading my story.
