Help rebuild the Nepalese village of Beding
Organized by: nick frazee
Event Name: Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund
In the winter of 2014 my partner and I traveled to the remote Rolwaling Valley to climb on the beautiful mountains rising from the valley. We lived in the village of Beding for 6 weeks, climbing, meeting the locals, and enjoying the beauty and serenity of this quiet mountain village and those who live there. It was with heavy hearts that we received the news that this village had been destroyed by the recent earthquakes, some of whose epicenters were located just miles away. While most in the village have escaped with their lives, the destruction has been total, and the displaced are now sheltering in a village up canyon that is severely threatened by flooding. In addition, major rockfall and landslides have destroyed the trail downstream, taking out crucial bridges that connect these villages to the rest of the world. These people, living in the harsh himalayan mountains, are not totally self sufficient, they rely on trade with neighboring areas to fill their need for food and supplies. We will be traveling to Nepal to provide aid to this small community which is likely to be overlooked by their government and other relief organizations due to their small size, seldom traveled, and remote location. We will be purchasing supplies, employing local craftsmen, and laboring ourselves, in order to help restore this beautiful village. 100% of all donations will be applied directly to the relief effort as my parter and I will be traveling and living under our own financial means, as well as donating money ourselves. In addition to basic shelter, rebuilding the school, and the Gompa will be major focuses as their children and their religion are incredibly important aspects of their lives. We hope you may be able to open your hearts to these people, whose lives and livelihood have been uprooted in the most dramatic of ways.
