Many of you know that I volunteer for an organization called GirlVentures that challenges and empowers young women in the Bay Area to cultivate their leadership skills through outdoor adventure.
I'm a part of the Girls Advisory Board, where I get to work with an amazing group of high school girls to learn and teach leadership and healthy living skills, and to put together a very fun and important fundraising event, the annual GirlVentures "Hike for Girls!"
If you live in the area then I hope you can join me on May 7th. All genders welcome on the hike. It's also family and dog friendly, and a beautiful day in Tilden Park.
As a GAB member, I have also committed to raising funds for the GirlVentures scholarship program, and I invite you to make a donation so that ALL girls are able to participate in programming throughout the year!
One of the things I love about GirlVentures is it's commitment to accessibility- 1/3 of all girls pay full price to attend a course, 1/3 of the girls receive a partial scholarship, and 1/3 of all girls receive a FULL scholarship. This model is super important to me- I received a full scholarship to attend an Outward Bound course in high school, and it was one of the most inspiring and impactful experiences of my life. Without a full scholarship I could not have participated. I truly and deeply believe in the power and potential of outdoor courses to change a person's life for the better, and I want these experiences to be as accessible to as many girls as possible.
