The mission of the Bel Canto Performing Arts Society is to provide individuals in the community, without regard for race, gender, or socio-economic status, opportunities to receive musical instruction, education, mentoring, listening and performing experiences, thereby fostering cultural diversity and inspiring a lifelong appreciation of the performing arts.

Formerly under the direction and vision of the late beloved Dr. Richard Koehler, the Bel Canto choir of Franklin High School performed hundreds of concerts, recorded albums and became Goodwill Ambassadors to Europe. Dr. Koehler's chosen successor is Dr. Mark Andersen, Concert and Recording Artist, and Conductor. Dr. Andersen is a two-time winner of the International Composer's Competition in Amsterdam, Holland; once in 1976 and again in 1999. In addition to directing the Bel Canto Singers, he is also the Artist in Residence at Daniels Recital Hall.

The uniqueness of the Bel Cantos lies in our diversity. Coming from many different cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds, we set an example for embracing and respecting individual differences. The bond that once tied us together has endured and continues into the present.
