Several years ago my 95 year old aunt suffered the loss of her husband of over 60 years. She was bereft and saw little need to live until a kind neighbor offered to go with my aunt to a local animal shelter to pick out a cat to be her companion. This same neighbor helped my aunt take care of her new cat Bella through the final year of my aunt's life. The joy of having this sweet cat made an enormous difference in the quality of my aunt's life and even in my aunt's final hours we were able to sneak Bella into the nursing facility to have a final goodbye. My aunt died peacefully shortly after saying goodbye to Bella and Bella is now in a new loving home. All of this was possible because of caring and compassionate shelters like the Upper Valley Humane Society and the people who give generously to allow them to bring stories like these to life. Please donate, walk, volunteer and support UVHS in any way you can - maybe you'll have a story to tell someday about how a shelter animal changed your life or someone's life you love.
