BENEFITING: GREATER SAN DIEGO AFTER-SCHOOL ALL- STARS
Help us with our Bella Twins FUNdraiser.
In honor of our favorite WWE Divas Nikki and Brie Bella's 30th Birthday, The Carter Lay Charitable Fund has teamed up with The After School All Stars for the ultimate present: Helping kids stay safe, improve academic performance, lead a healthy life and keep them in school by providing after school activities.
And we need your help to make our donation goal of $50,000!
San Diego's After School All Stars supports 16 schools throughout San Diego county. The program supports 4,000 K-12 students who need a safe place to go after school.
Youth obesity in America is an epidemic, the result of decades worth of deteriorating nutrition and poor food choices, declining physical activity, and lack of education. Since the 1970s, national obesity rates have nearly quintupled among 6 to 11-year-olds, according to the Centers for Disease Control. This crisis disproportionately affects the low-income and minority youth After School All Stars serves.
Poor food choices and limited access to healthy food options are major causes of high youth obesity rates. These issues are exacerbated when children are left to prepare their own meals and snacks.
"Sports as a Hook" is SD All Stars initiative to combat youth obesity by providing structured physical activity from football, soccer, basketball, yoga, zumba, volleyball, cheerleading and more. "Sports As A Hook" also focuses on healthy eating by teaching nutritional education, providing cooking classes, and learning to grow your own yummy and good for you greens in urban vegetable gardens.
You can provide a program for a child for $7 a day.
You can provide a program for a child's entire school year for $1225.
When working in combination, all of these factors can produce a healthy lifestyle culture, sustained by school staff, ASAS instructors, family and community members, and peers, that improves the likelihood students will maintain such a lifestyle in the future.
Thank you for your support!
