Bellows Freifechter High School Historical Fencing Club
Organized by: Harold Vance
Students are starting up a high school Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) fencing club at Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax, Vermont. Participants are excited to learn from historical manuscripts from fencing masters of days gone by. We will be focusing predominantly on the works of 16th century German fencing master, Joachim Meyer; practicing techniques with the Feder-style longsword. In addition to being a life-long educational learning opportunity, HEMA is also a great means of achieving and maintaining physical fitness throughout the lives of those of us who may not be as interested in modern, mainstream sporting opportunities. We will be learning many new skills, and increasing self-discipline through our study of Historical Fencing. As lovers of the sport and culture of HEMA are aware, this is a highly expensive endeavor to set out upon, and as a Student Activities Club, we are responsible for raising the funds for all of our gear, instruction, and event opportunities on our own. As we are starting up, we are hoping to raise the funds to be able to purchase our training gear of synthetic longswords, manuals, and necessary protective equipment. Thank you so much for your support of Bellow Freifechter, and for supporting and promoting all things HEMA.
