THE STORY:

Hey Friends-

As many of you know, Charles and I welcomed our twins, Anna and Bess, on December 6, 2010.  Their birth was a miracle, but in the process Bess suffered a traumatic brain injury which resulted in her having spastic quadraplegic cerebral palsy.  Although she can't do many of the things that Anna can do, she is a joyful 10 month old who loves music, kisses from her big sister Katie Cobb, and cuddling with her mommy and daddy.

Bess and I started going to the Bell Center in June and currently go twice a week for therapy.  As a result of her work at the Bell Center, we have seen improvement in her head control, vision, and tolerance of therapy in general.  We have also strengthened our support system by connecting with other families and with Bess' therapists.  We look forward to meeting more of Bess' goals as she continues to work hard at each of her sessions.

As a way to support both Bess and the Bell Center, we have formed a team of runners for the Mercedes Marathon in February.  We have both half marathon runners and marathon relay teams and we are all working hard to be ready for the big race!  We thank each of you for visiting our site and for helping us reach our fundraising goal.

I have included the information below for further reading on the Bell Center:

The Bell Center offers early intervention services to children at risk for delay, often within a few days or weeks after birth. Parents often feel a sense of helplessness when they discover their child has special needs; however, the Bell Center staff and volunteers are able to provide them with specific information and encouragement allowing parents to move from a sense of confusion, to a deep pride in their children’s accomplishments and optimism for the future.

Programs at The Bell Center are designed to promote growth in gross and fine motor skills, as well as language, cognition, self-help, and play skills. Each child is evaluated annually, and goals are tailored specifically to the child’s needs. The Bell Center employs a staff of highly qualified professionals including physical and occupational therapists, speech/language pathologists, and early childhood special education teachers who work directly with infants and toddlers in many programs while directing the efforts of volunteers who work with toddlers in other programs.

Thank you for your support!
