Yesterday we lost a dear friend, Lakpa Thundu Sherpa, who died in an avalanche as he helped lead a team of British mountaineers climbing Mt Amadablam in eastern Nepal, not far from Mt. Everest. The avalanche, was triggered by the 5.6 magnitude quake that rattled the area.
Thundu was part of the inspiration for the Soarway Foundation. He was one of two incredible Sherpas who helped to saved the life of Mike Kobold's wife on the slopes of Everest and sparked Mike's deep commitment to Nepal which led to his creating Soarway. Thundu embodied the values we see every day in the people of Nepal...courage, resilience, strength and a quiet determination to carry on and do their best no matter the challenges.
Thundu's loss touches all who knew him but the tragedy of course devastates his family most of all. His wife and two young sons have lost a husband and father who loved them deeply and who risked his life to care for them. If you want to join us in remembering Thundu and helping his family in this time of mourning, we will collect funds here via Crowdrise and transfer them to the family as it faces a bleak future without him. Please help!
