Benefit for Michele Russell
Organized by: Heatherly Dancy
EVENT DATE Aug 31, 2015
In late March this year Michele was given a diagnosis that changed her entire life, and left her battling to remain alive each day.
Initially she felt ill, almost like a flu - sure enough, the doctors said to hydrate and rest. Fast forward three days later and a seizure will place her in a local emergency room with some hard truths: this is not a flu.
This is Stage IV Lung Cancer that had metastasized to her brain and the lymph nodes of her chest.
Surgery to remove the largest brain tumor was performed, although within a few months a new tumor would appear in that very place.
Targeted radiation from the neck up was completed, and deactivated the remaining tumors for a short while, but they are active again and growing.
The lung mass was too large to operate on without complication, and based on the type of cancer she has the risks outweighed the benefits - chemotherapy was the only option.
We are sad to report that none of these efforts have helped with the progression of this horrible disease, and Michele is resting at home on Hospice.
We are incredibly grateful that we have been given extra time to spend with our loved one, and must be honest and say that the timeline we have been given will not allow us enough to organize an event.
Unfortunately there has been no income for her since April, and the benefits have slowly worn away.
To keep the home while she is with us, and to provide proper end of life services as well as respect her final wishes, we have decided it is within Michele's best interest to organize a fund to hopefully raise some money.
The family and close friends are doing everything within their means to help Mich feel comfortable and well loved while at home, and are open to any and all support provided.
If you have any questions, or care to contact any family member directly, please do not hesitate.
The love and support is greatly appreciated, and we are thankful for everyone who has been by our sides during this difficult journey.
