A local Benson family has been experiencing extreme hardships- both financial and personal- and are in desperate need of assistance.

This family has one child, a toddler, and do not receive any sort of assistance. Until recently, the family had two working vehicles but in a set of unfortunate circumstances, within a two week period, one car broke down and as a result, one of the parents lost their job as they were no longer able to commute to Raleigh each day. The other parent, who then became the sole bread winner, was unable to pay for the cost of repairs to the car since they were then solely responsible for paying their rent ($675) and the utility bills, which in the town of Benson are astronomical since the town owns the power grid. Their average summer bill I was told from the Town of Benson which included electricity, water, trash and sewage totaled in the amount of $427.00. Not to mention buying food and necessities for the household and the child, a financial strain became quite apparent and they were forced to make the decision to surrender both of their cars as making car payments on top of everything else became impossible.

Without a vehicle to go look for work and Benson not exactly being a prospering town ripe with job opportunities, the unemployed parent has remained jobless despite their best efforts and even though one parent is still working, their income is not enough for them to survive. Their situation has gotten so desperate that they are literally on the verge of losing the roof over their child's head because coming up with the rent almost immediately after the utility bill is near impossible. They are currently filling out applications and looking for more affordable places to move into but without cars or any means to look and/or move, again, the situation is difficult at best.

I could continue to go on about how they are struggling but I think the few points I touched on paint a clear picture. Yes, there are families struggling everywhere but all this family needs is a little boost to get back on their feet and I believe with all my heart that if we all look within ourselves and donate what we are able to, we can come together as a community and help one family that is trying so desperately to get by, make it. Any money raised will be going directly to the landlord whom I have already spoken to and the power bill- if we can meet our goal or exceed it, I plan on making an anonymous donation to help the family get a cheap, used car that will at least get them from Point A to Point B.

I do not want to get too far into detail about the family since they are not aware I am doing this yet and I don't want them to feel embarrassed in any way but I was made aware of their situation through a co-worker of the mother and felt like something needed to be done to help. Benson and Coats are small communities but when we come together, we do incredible things in terms of helping others and I pray that I can count on each and every one of you to pass this story along and refer friends to this fundraiser so that we can really make a difference in a local family's life.

Thank you all so much for your time and donations and please help me get the word out! Facebook, Twitter; however you choose...just please don't choose to do nothing because every dollar counts and can mean the difference between this family making it or ending up on the streets or separated as a result.
