There is an old saying: "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes." And that is exactly what the YWCA of San Diego County’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event asks the San Diego community to do. This fundraising event asks men (and women and children) to literally walk one mile in women's heeled shoes as a powerful symbol of their commitment to putting an end to domestic violence. It's not easy, but it's fun and it raises critical funding for the YWCA’s Becky’s House® Domestic Violence Program.
On October 17th 2013, we invite you to join hundreds of men, women and children in putting on a pair of pumps and walking for a mile through the streets of downtown San Diego. This event represents a fun, light-hearted way to build awareness of the prevalence of domestic violence and its negative impact on the community, while raising critical funds for the YWCA of San Diego County's Becky's House® Domestic Violence Program.
When? Thursday, October 17, 2013
Registration at 5pm, Walk at 6pm, Post Event Party from 7pm at the San Diego Wine & Culinary Center.
Where? ML King Promenade Park (Cnr 4th Ave & K St, Downtown San Diego)
Why? Because it is going to take each and every member of our community to change the way we view domestic violence and stop it. This event raises much-needed funding for the YWCA's Becky's House® Domestic Violence Program. All of the services provided by Becky's House® support the individual's journey from victim to survivor to achiever. The program includes a 30-60 day domestic violence emergency shelter, a 24-hour emergency hotline, and four transitional housing programs for survivors of domestic violence and their families. Becky's House® serves more than 500 women and children, and receives nearly 2,500 hotline calls each year!
