You gotta see the colors on this hummingbird!  See more

BENEFITING: Island Conservation

EVENT DATE: Jan 01, 2011

THE STORY:

It's not every day you come across a hummingbird this attractive. Perhaps thats because it only exists on one island in the entire world - Robinson Crusoe off the coast of Chile. It is here in the Juan Fernandez Archipelago that the Juan Fernandez Firecrown can be found.

Due to its limited range and the presence of invasive species, this rare bird is listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature). Presently, there are an estimated 500 individuals surviving.

Island Conservation is working to remove invasive species from Robinson Crusoe Island to protect this colorful hummingbird from extinction. You can help prevent their extinction too! Donate today!
