No Shave November
The Beta Iota Chapter of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is proud to announce their second annual month-long fundraiser on the premise of No Shave November. A team of Sigma Alpha Mu brothers have pledged to grow their facial hair out for the month of November in order to raise money and awareness for The Judy Fund, a family fund at the Alzheimer's Association. The Alzheimer's Association is an organization dedicated to supporting Alzheimer's research, providing care for all those affected, and promoting brain health to reduce the risk of dementia. Each brother is going to have a unique facial hairstyle so be sure to follow our growing fun on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SAMBetaIotaNoShaveNovember.
Alzheimer's Disease, The Judy Fund, and the Alzheimer's Association
Alzheimer's Disease is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking, and behavior. Alzheimer's seriously interferes with daily functioning and accounts for 80% of dementia cases in the United States. Although there currently is no cure for the disease, treatments for symptoms are available thanks to millions of generous donors who have given to the Alzheimer's Association.
The Gelfand Family established the Judy Fund in 2003. Since then, the fund has raised over 5 million dollars for the Alzheimer's Association - the world's leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's disease care, support, and research. The Judy Fund at the Alzheimer's Association has been Sigma Alpha Mu's national charity of choice since 2005. Chapters across the country hold philanthropy events every year to spread awareness and raise money for the cause. The success of our chapter's fundraiser last year lead the Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity to implement No Shave November nationally as its signature fundraising event. As members of Sigma Alpha Mu, we have made it our mission to spread awareness of this debilitating mental disease, and raise money towards its eventual cure.
