This year marks a milestone: our 20th annual Sleep Out. It will begin at 6 PM on February 15 in the front of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity House at the University of Maine.
The Beta Theta Pi Sleep Out is a philanthropy event hosted by the Brothers of the Beta Eta Chapter of Beta Theta Pi. The Brothers will create a bonfire on the front lawn of the house and stay out in the cold from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am to raise awareness for Rape Response Services in Bangor, Maine. Last year, Beta raised in excess of $7,000 in donations. Our hope is that this year, with your help, we can raise even more!
The event will feature several speakers from our school and local community. These speakers include Dean of Students, Dr. Robert Dana and representatives from Rape Response Services of Bangor and other student organizations.
Rape Response Services serves the local community by creating resources for those who have fallen victim to sexual assault. They provide a wide range of services including one-on-one counseling and a toll-free sexual assault hotline. Reports of aggravated, unwanted sexual assault have increased in the past few years. This event serves as a fundraiser and represents our firm stance against these acts.
We are asking you to assist us in raising money by donating a tax-¬deductible sponsorship. We also welcome items that could be included in this year’s raffle drawing. Beta Theta Pi and Rape Response Services of Bangor are, as I hope you’re aware, both non¬-profit organizations.
