BENEFITING: POSTPARTUM PROGRESS
EVENT DATE: Jun 18, 2016
As a survivor of postpartum depression, and as a childbirth professional, I understand the cost to women and families who feel scared to admit the problem and find/accept help. Awareness and breaking down the stigma associated with postpartum mood disorders is the FIRST step in changing how we treat new mothers and their families, and the resources available to them! In Memphis, we have only ONE mental health professional specializing in postpartum mood disorders and birth-related counseling. There are certainly communities where none are available. It feels very hopeless to run up against a lack of resources to help, and it works to further isolate women struggling with postpartum anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, etc. Work with us to change that if you know how it feels, if you love someone who survived, if you love someone coping, or if you know someone who didn't.
