BENEFITING: Susan G. Komen New England
EVENT DATE: Oct 04, 2015
The Komen Connecticut Ride for the Cure celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2015!
This is the second time I have chosen to ride in the ride for cure. The first time, I did it because it sounded fun and it was a worthy cause, this time I will do it in memory of my sister, Joann who died in March of metastatic breast cancer. A breast cancer survivor for ten years, Joann's breast cancer reappeared in her liver in Feb. of 2012. With tears, we clung to each other as we tried to absorb all this diagnosis would entail. But no one could have prepared us for all we went through, and I say we, because when cancer strilkes a person, it affects the entire family. Joann fought gallantly for three years and as I watched her, in her battle, go from a healthy vibrant woman to a barely functional person, I grew to hate breast cancer like never before. My ride this year will be dedicated to the memory of my big sister and to all the sisters, mothers, daughters, aunts and woman who face this disease. My hope is that one day, breast cancer will be a thing of the past. Thanks for whatever help you decide to give me, even if its in the form of a prayer. God bless
