Broughal Middle School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania educates nearly 600 students. Shockingly, 85-90% of these children are eligible for Free and Reduced Lunch. What does this mean? It is likely that the only substantial meals these children get are those provided by the school. As a result, over long weekends and holidays, many kids go hungry. Through Community-School Services, a program called Backpack Pals was created. This program packs backpacks with food, such as granola bars and nonperishable items, to give to students. Unfortunately, the school only has enough money to run this program once a month to feed 20 kids at a time. Too many children are going hungry. Having a substantial nutritional diet is vital to a child's health and well-being. For only $10-15, you can feed a child in need!
