THE STORY:

BettyAnn Engelmann wrote -

Right now, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.  On August 17, 2016, I became that 1 in 8.  After more than 18 months of treatment including chemotherapy, surgery, reconstruction and immunotherapy, I am happy to be cancer-free today and optimistic that this will not change for a very long time.   The funds raised through the Twin Cities Race for the Cure directly fuel the fight against breast cancer – through increased awareness, earlier detection, better treatment, much-needed support of breast cancer patients, and – ultimately – finding that elusive cure.     I am fortunate to have benefited in many ways from efforts supported by Komen Minnesota and the national Susan G. Komen organization.  Angel Foundation, a Komen Minnesota grant receipient, provides financial assistance and other support to Minnesota families facing breast cancer; my two young daughters received their AngelPack care packages with items that helped them cope with my diagnosis.  In addition, I’m participating in a clinical trial involving potentially game-changing use of immunotherapy against my particularly aggressive and difficult to treat form of breast cancer – and the lead investigator is supported by Komen funds.     I am proud to play a part in funding these crucially important efforts.  Please help us in this effort by donating to our team.  Everyone deserves a lifetime, and each dollar makes a difference in making that happen!

The Susan G. Komen Mission is to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.

Susan G. Komen® Minnesota- along with those who generously support us with their talent, time and resources- is working to better the lives of those facing breast cancer in our community. We join more than 100,000 breast cancer survivors and activists around the globe as part of the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting breast cancer. Through events like the Susan G. Komen Twin Cities Race for the Cure®, we have raised more than $45 million and awarded grants to Minnesota (non-profit) institutions for breast cancer awareness, education, outreach, screening, treatment support and research. Up to 75% of net proceeds stay right here in Minnesota. A minimum of 25% of net funds are contributed to the national Susan G. Komen® Award and Research Grants Program for energizing science to find the cures. Learn more at www.komenminnesota.org.
