BENEFITING: PERFORMING ARTS WORKSHOP INC
For my 28th birthday, I'm fundraising for Performing Arts Workshop. If you believe that nothing should stand in the way between a child and a well-rounded, high-quality education, please donate today!
For many of us, art and music classes was an essential part of school.
Sadly, this isn't true for kids today. There are disgusting inequalities in arts programs, even between schools that may only be a mile away from each other. Schools with a wealthier student body have more access to the arts than schools serving largely low-income students. This is where Performing Arts Workshop comes in.
If we don't have arts in schools, we don't have education in schools.
Performing Arts Workshop gives students the education that they need and deserve. Since 1965 we've been helping kids develop critical thinking, creative expression, and basic learning skills through the arts.
Workshop artists teach creative writing, creative movement, world dance, and theatre arts classes in schools, community centers, and juvenile detention centers each year.
We serve over 5,000 at-risk youth each. Research proves that our students perform better in school, develop critical thinking skills, and are more engaged in learning. Our proven methedology helps kids develop the skills they need to thrive in the 21st century.
“Like if I’m stressed, or I’m kind of feeling down, I could just dance and my feelings go away from my spirit while I dance, and it just makes me feel good. When I’m on stage, I feel really confident. It’s like a body language, while you’re dancing. It shows you who you are.” -Kamarea, Middle School
"I was fascinated by the authencitiy of it all. I had the feeling this is where it's at baby." -Rolf Peterson, KGO-TV, 2/1/69
"That group of kids put on a show Saturday night that knocked me completely out." -Ralph Gleason, SF Chronicle, 6/14/64
