BENEFITING: Beyond Type 1
ORGANIZER: Beyond Type 1
Our son, Ethan, is (almost) 10 years old. He was diagnosed February 12, 2014. He lives a happy life full of goofing off with his friends, writing books, playing baseball, and having fun with his family. However, always looming in the background of everyday life is the constant blood glucose monitoring from his Dexcom, ALL THE beeping, test strips, finger pokes, blood drops, carb counting (SO BORING), making sure his Omnipod Insulin pump is working right, and band aids.
My name is Christine, my husband is Keith. We live a life mixed with love, laughter and lots of worry.
We worry about whether or not his blood sugar is ok. What will affect it today? Did he eat all his lunch? Did he run too much in gym? Did he "this", did he "that"?? We worry about his future. We worry when we see his blood sugar crashing, we hope and pray that we never have to bust out the glucagon shot, which inevitably will require a trip to the Emergency Room. We worry about financing the ever increasing cost of Diabetes Management. We worry if his little brother, Drew, has the autoantibodies that are tested for by Trial Net that give the indicators for a predisposition to Type 1 Diabetes (he tested negative).
We'll never forget the helpless feelings we had in the hospital, that day he was diagnosed. Our hearts were broken into a million pieces that day and some of the days following. With this fundraiser, we are proud to team up with Beyond Type 1. We believe in their mission, we believe in their goals.
To Educate the public and those with Diabetes on everything they would need to know about this autoimmune disease.
To Advocate for those who feel they don't have a voice.
To A Cure. Ultimately, this is the goal. They fund important research that will lead to a cure. This is what we want. This is what we need.
Please consider donating, anything and everything helps!
So much love and THANK YOU,
Christine, Keith, Ethan, and Drew Kanderski
