BENEFITING: HOMELESS CHILDREN'S PLAYTIME PROJECT INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 13, 2013
The mission of the Homeless Children's Playtime Project is to nurture healthy child development and reduce the effects of trauma among children living in temporary housing programs in the District of Columbia. Trained and screened volunteers provide weekly activities, healthy snacks, and opportunities to play for the children at emergency shelter and transitional housing sites in our nation's capital. This year, Playtime will serve 800 children, ranging from infants to young adults.
To meet the unique developmental needs of teenagers experiencing homelessness, Playtime launched the Teen Program in 2009. As a volunteer with Teen Program, I serve as a mentor, an advocate, and a tutor to give our teens the space needed for growth and development with their peers.
