BENEFITING: Boston Health Care For The Homeless Program Inc
EVENT: 2016 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 18, 2016
For 30 years, Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) has been dedicated to a singular, powerful mission—to provide or assure access to the highest quality health care for Boston’s homeless men, women and children.
There are many daunting health care challenges for homeless men, women and children: the daily search for food, clothing and shelter that often take priority over doctor’s visits; untreated illnesses and injuries that may escalate from minor symptoms and easily cured problems into major illnesses and health care emergencies; as well as the complicated management of chronic illnesses due to lack of secure space to store medication or practice healthy behaviors.
At BHCHP, providers are experienced with our patients' medical complexity, aware of potential behavioral health issues and respectful of their struggles. By delivering health care at over 60 locations--including within the walls of Boston's family and emergency shelters, under bridges, along back alleys and on two hospital campuses--BHCHP is able to care for more than 12,500 homeless patients each year.
