Boys Hope Girls Hope of Detroit helps academically capable and motivated children in need to meet their full potential and become men and women for others by providing valued-centered, family-like homes, opportunities and education through college.
Boys Hope Girls Hope of Detroit is a college prep program. Detroit students face overwhleming obstacles in the pursuit of education. Despite the instability students face in Detroit, there are many throughout the city determined to succeed and deserve to have the opportuntity to do so. Boys Hope Girls Hope of Detroit seeks out these intelligent and ambitious scholars to prepare them academically and assist them financially; most notably with an $18,000 scholarship upon completion of the program!
100% of all donations during this challenge will directly benefit the scholars enrolled in Boys Hope Girls Hope of Detroit. Donations will be divided among three areas within our organization- Residential, Hope Prep Academy, and Collegians. A brief description of each program is provided below.
Residential: We have a home in Detroit where we house 6 girls year round. Our residential program works to recreate the nurturing and supportive family dynamic all children need. A residential counselor is there to, among a multitude of other duties, take the girls to doctor visits, cook meals, and to provide a stable mentor. The girls also participate in the academy program with the other scholars where they work towards college admission.
Hope Prep Academy: The non-residential academy is an academic enrichment program after-school program for underserved Detroit youth. The after school program is directed by capable tutors who provide academic support and development. Scholars prepare for college, future careers, recieve assistance when applying for pre-college and college programs, and serve the community twice a month on Saturdays.
Collegians: Our programming does not end after high school graduation. Today, more students are entering college than ever, but many are still struggling to graduate. Boys Hope Girls Hope of Detroit stays in close contact with our college attendees by offering transition services, internship and resume support, and of course by providing them with the finances for the BHGH scholarship of $18,000. Post graduate support is crucial to our program's success because our alumni provide important examples for today's youth.
