Hello People Near and Far,
Welcome to my fundraising page for the NYC Marathon. Yes, you read that correctly - at the ripe old age of 40, I have decided that I would like nothing more than to be tortured continuously for 26.2 miles, most likely, in miserable weather. Think that sounds difficult? It's nothing compared to what people who live with Type 1 Diabetes go through day in and day out for their entire lives. And why do I know this? Because my Husband, my Offspring's Dad, and one of the best people I know, has had T1D since college. Watching him manage his diabetes since we have been together has given me unmeasurable respect for him and insight into how this disease can destroy so many parts of your body if you are not constantly vigilant.
You see, T1D has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle, and there is nothing you can do to prevent it. Currently, there is no cure. It requires constant carbohydrate counting and blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin. But insulin is not a cure, and it does not prevent the possibility of serious complications such as kidney failure, blindness, and stroke.
Funding T1D research is crucial to eventually eradicating this awful disease. Won't you please support my committment by making a donation? Your support would mean the world to us. And if you're in NYC on 11/06/2016, by all means, let us know and come cheer me on. I will need all the help I can get. Believe that.
So much love,
Bianca W. Johnson + Husband + Offspring
