BENEFITING: City of Dreams
Hi, my name is Bianca Sices and I am a graduate of the City of Dreams mentoring program, participating in the program from 2008-2013. I served as the Junior Mentor President, where I discovered my dream of working in the field of social work so I can serve the Hunter's Point community that I grew up in.
Last fall I took a step towards my goal, enrolling at Mercy College to pursue a career in Social Work. When I first got to New York, I admit I was scared. I had no friends or family but I quickly adjusted. My financial advisor and academic counselor helped me get use to the school and showed me how to have a successful semester. My favorite class of the semester was Sociology and I earned a 2.41. I also made wonderful friends who showed me how to get around New York.
Thanks to support from my community, scholarships, my current job and my upcoming college work study program, I was able to pursue my dream to go to college; however, I am still $1,230 short of the funds that I need to afford the upcoming spring semester. I have a part time job lined up when I return, which will help me build up my reserves for upcoming years and will also be applying for scholarships this summer.
I would be so grateful if you could help me reach my fundraising goal of $1,230, to reach my overall goal for the year of 8,000. You can donate directly to this page. Thank you for supporting me in continuing my education!
