`Cause tramps like us, baby.. #NotAnotherEnglishmanRunningNYC
Friends, Family, Social Media Acquaintances, lend me your hard earned dollars, pounds, cents and pence (not Mike). Yes it’s my turn to ask you to donate money to yet another person doing something grossly physical in the name of the ‘kids’. Might look at rewording that last bit..
I would be most grateful if you were to sponsor me as I look to complete the 2017 New York City Marathon, and in doing so raise some valuable cash for a great international cause, The Big Brothers and Big Sisters program >> http://www.bbbsi.org/
Having been a ‘Big’ in NYC for over a year - yes that’s right they let me look after the youth in America - I can really attest to what a fantastic organisation it is, one doing some great work.
“The world’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, supervised matches between adult volunteers and children and youth in communities around the globe.'
Your $£$£ will help them identify more kids and then correctly pair them with amazing mentors, you could even spare a child my attention!
On the running front I’ve been distance training since December 2016 (that’s what all the sweaty selfies about), inspired in no small part by my dear friend Kwasi Ankomah, who himself ran the London Marathon for a worthy cause earlier this year. Incidentally we both turned 30 in 2017 so there’s clearly a point to prove that we are now entering our male peaks. #26.2for30.
I know everyone gets lots of requests like these each year but this one is a bit of a special and unique - it’s the NYC Marathon, baby! A jog through the 5 boroughs of the City and State of New York: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island. I’m assuming their’s a bridge from Staten Island, or a treadmill on the Ferry.
So please dig deep into your pockets, have a rummage around that hurt locker for one of those paper I-O-U’s I must have. I’ll be good for it, have I ever mentioned that I once completed a 5000 mile solo cycle of Europe :P
Much Love, JBD.
