Big Gar's Future
Organized by: Matthew Johnson
EVENT DATE Dec 31, 2014
My father, Gary Johnson, is a great man. Unfortunately, he struggles with his weight and is around 330 lbs at 6'3". The weight has caused him to be a type 2 diabetic. I joked with him, that I would set up an account on here to try and raise $500 per pound, if he would lose 50 pounds in 6 months. He told me not to do it, but I figured it was worth a shot, especially if it could motivate him enough to actually do it. He is a father, brother, husband, grandfather, uncle, cousin, friend, and the neighborhood mailman everyone loved. He suffers from depression, now that he can't do the things he once loved doing. He is a military vet, former mailman for over 30 years, and had played city league sports in basketball and softball. He has had both of his hips replaced, along with a shoulder replacement. He is at the point, now, where he can't even walk short distances without being winded. We are afraid for him... everyone who has a family member who suffers from weight gain and/or obesity, understands my concern. The inability to be motivated. The constant need to rest and take a break. The lack of confidence and self esteem. Not being the person you once were.... We actually have all have been there to some degree, but many of us do not have the strength, alone, to try and fight back.
My fundraiser is to help bring awareness of obesity and type 2 diabetes. Everyday, people everywhere suffer from obesity, and a large share eventually get type 2 diabetes from it. I want to motivate my father to lose the weight at all costs. I want him to lose 50 pounds in 6 months. Please help me in my journey to help save more time on a man's life. I know his granddaughters would thank you too! Any bit will help. If I don't reach the goal, I will return any amounts left after the customary fees charged by the site. I will also write a letter to each individual that helped, thanking them for their kindness and willingness to understand. Obesity is a sickness... and we can beat it, one person at a time!
