My mom Martha Jansen was an incredible mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend. She had a deep love for God and it showed through her 30 year career as Director of Religious Education and then later as Director of Volunteers at Immaculate Conception Church. She loved to play tennis, paint, work in her garden, and spend time with her family. My parents have been married for 49 years and I am the youngest of six children. My dad has been by her side and his amazing strength has been inspirational. Thier love is truly special.
I decided to run this marathon in memory of my mother, Martha, and to help raise money for pancreatic cancer reserach. My mom battled pancreatic cancer for 8 1/2 years. Even when she was tired of chemo or tired from her pain, she continued to fight as long as she could while living an active and fullfilling life. She truly was a miracle and the way she lived her life was a great example to others. I will always be her Sandrita. She is missed by many.
Project Purple is a 501c(3) not for profit organization with a mission of raising awareness and funds toward a cure of pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer is the 4th largest killer of all cancer killers and one of the least funded by the NCI. It is the only cancer in the top 10 killers of cancer with a single digit survival rate after 5 years.
Thank you for reading my story and for your donation in helping fight pancreatic cancer.
