Bike 4 Homeless
Organized by: Daniel Thakur
New Year, New Bike Tour, New Fundraiser!
August 30, 2017
EVENT DATE May 17, 2016
Mileage Tracker: 4,100
The time is finally here! On May 17 three friends and I set out on a journey, coast-to-coast, across the United States on just bicycles and the power of our own legs! This trip- a dream, years in the making- sets out from Yorktown, Virginia and completes in San Francisco, California; A whopping 3800 miles! With 10 weeks planned for the TransAmerica Trail and the Western Express trail, I've looked forward to using this effort as an opportunity to give back to my community. With your help, I can make this trip a success and contribute to a cause that is in great need of the funding.
With a growing homeless population at home, in the city of State College, Pennsylvania, there is a concerning lack of resources available. This is where local non-profit shelter, Hearts 4 Homeless, comes in. This organization serves the local homeless community, providing day shelter, housing, job counselling, and community connection, advocacy, and awareness. The shelter is young, and is a critical resource! Your donations help this center stay open and expand its much-needed resources.
Your donation will be split between the shelter and the costs for me to complete this ride.
Living completely from the back of my bicycle and sleeping in a tent, I'm minimizing my need for spending. At 6000-10000 spent calories, per day, my most significant expense will come from food.
Here is a basic break down of the costs of the trip:
Bike Maintenance $100
Misc. Gear $100
Plane Ticket home $300
Shipment of bike home $180
Approx. Total: $1730
A contribution of any size is significant! If you are unable to make a donation, please share the campaign with family and friends!
Follow my blog- bike4homeless.wordpress.com - and track my progress as I experience the United States via human-powered travel, while working to spread awareness of what can be done to combat local homelessness!
