Join us in the fight to end polio! On Saturday, January 28th, 2017 athletes of all abilities will be Biking for Humanity raising funds to End Polio Now!
How it works: While many of my fellow Rotarians will be participating on the mainland, I and fellow members of the Avalon Rotary Club will be participating in the event (actually hosted in Newport Beach) on Catalina Island. I will be biking from Avalon up to the Aiport in the Sky and back (about 21.5 miles with an elevation gain of 2,684'). I'll be joined by Rotarians of all ages and abilities who will either hike/run/bike any variation of the route, but ultimately ending up at the Airport in the Sky. We will be celebrating our endeavor and the funds we've raised by having lunch up there, which has been graciously donated by Sue Rikalo, owner of the DC3 Gifts & Grill, to anyone who participates in fundraising for this event.
Any participant can start from any location, but must be at the Airport in the Sky by noon. Each individual will determine the number of miles they log and will be documented using Strava.com or a personal GPS devise.
How you help: We kindly ask that you make a donation of either a set denomination per mile (ex: $1, $5, $100) or a flat amount towards our efforts. The funds raised will be used toward fully funding a humanitarian trip to India providing dental services and polio vaccinations. Together, we can take one more step toward Rotary's goal of eradicating polio altogether!
