BENEFITING: ROTARY FIRST HARVEST
To support and highlight Harvest Against Hunger, the Program Director Benjamin will bike 850 miles in ten days around Washington to visit eight communities where gleaning and gardening projects are based. At each of the communities Benjamin will meet the local AmeriCorps*VISTA member, participate in a gleaning or gardening event and attempt to garner local and statewide media attention – both about hunger and the HAH project.
HAH currently has 22 AmeriCorps*VISTA members working in 14 communities around Washington state, providing fresh fruits and vegetables to people in need. Rotary First Harvest is leading this effort to start and sustain local gardening and gleaning projects to harvest nutritious produce for distribution at local hunger relief programs. This unprecedented statewide effort is mobilizing thousands of volunteers and hundreds of growers to collect and distribute a goal of one million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables.
The first $1,000 is being matched by a generous supporter. So for every dollar you donate, you're actually raising two!
