Please support me as I wear #179 at Ironman Lake Tahoe in honor of Jon Blais!
Seeing Jon "Blazeman" Blais log roll across the finish line at Kona during the the television coverage of the 2005 Ironman World Championship was one of the most inspiring moments in sports I have ever experienced. Jon was a dedicated teacher, determined triathlete, and former New Englander who had made a move to CA... In 2005, Jon became the first person to complete the Ironman World Champtionships while battlng ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), Lou Gehrig's disease. He carried a little flag his students made for him all the way to the finish line at Kona when he made his log roll famous.
Since 2011, I have been racing in honor of the Blazeman Foundation for ALS - a non-profit organization run by Jon's parents to support research for ALS. I wear my red Blazeman Warrior jersey at races and log roll across the finish line like Jon.

From the Blazeman Foundation website: http://www.waronals.com/
"The mission of the Blazeman Foundation for ALS is 1) to raise awareness about ALS by leveraging the energy, commitment and compassion of the multi-sport community and 2) to raise necessary funds to be directed into cutting-edge scientific research to find treatments and an eventual cure for ALS...So Others May Live."
If you haven't seen the race coverage from 2005 - please check it out here:
The first "Blazeman Warrior" (charity racer), Brian Breen, raced in Jon's honor at Kona in 2006 and inspired many to follow in their footsteps. The race coverage from 2006 is also incredible so please be sure to watch that as well. Start viewing at 2:45 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEU2fFpIltQ

Now countless athletes, from world champions like Chrissie Wellington to everyday age-groupers like myself, log roll across the finish line in his honor.
This season I hope to raise at least $179 to honor Jon's Kona race number and hope to log roll over the finish line at Tahoe!
