Bike for Brent 2015
Organized by: SIdney McCullers
ON JULY 11 AND 12 I WILL RIDE 150 MILES FROM BOSTON TO THE BERKSHIRES TO RAISE SCHOLARSHIP MONEY! Guys, seriously, I have to ride so many MORE miles to prepare for this event....and it's hard. No doubt. However, I love participating in this fundraiser because the money we raise goes directly into funding camp scholarships for kids who otherwise might not be able to afford luxuries like summer camp. Every time I write a camp tuition check, pay for lessons, after school classes, or tutoring I am reminded how lucky my kids are to enjoy this sort of enrichment and I appreciate that this sort of financial aid makes these opportunities available to a greater number of kids.
Ruby and Harris will be attending Becket and Chimney Corners Camp for the seventh summer this year. This camp has been a fantastic opportunity for them to unplug, learn independence, bond with a new group of kids outside of their school experience, and develop an appreciation of nature. Ruby will be traveling with their service program this year to Japan and Harris was just chosen to participate in a 3 year leadership training program that he will finish as a cabin counselor. (His first paying job!!)
This ride was started to honor an old Becket friend who passed away and has traditionally been completed only by Becket men. Last year I was proud to participate as it was the first year a woman has joined and completed the course. We ride 100 miles on Saturday July 11 and 50 miles more July 12 all the way from Boston to Becket. All of the campers come out to cheer for us and I was really proud to be able to not only raise over $2000 for scholarships but also to ride by all the girls and demonstrate that of course, we can.
To be honest, this year is more intimidating than last. I have had some physical setbacks and I am not where I would like to be in my training. This fundraising, however, seals the deal. Your participation will help encourage me through the over 500 miles of training that I have planned between now and the actual ride. Thanks so much for your support.
