Picture this: you're running late (again) and upon arriving at your destination, you find that there isn't a parking space in sight. Many of us have found ourselves in similar predicaments. Wouldn't it be nice if you had the option of quickly getting through those last few blocks hassle-free?
Bike sharing gives you that option.
U.S. cities have started to embrace this innovative model that increases access to healthy, alternative transportation. It allows users to purchase subscriptions (ranging from day-long to annual memberships) and "check out" bicycles from self-serve bike stations located throughout a city.
Bike sharing is meant for a range of users. Looking for a way to get from the bus station to work? The convenience of bike sharing allows users to eliminate the last mile of their journeys and reach their destinations more easily. Have a friend in town? Bike sharing offers natives and visitors alike a new way to explore a city. Don't want to circle a block looking for a parking spot? That won't be an issue when you're on a bike.
This past September, six Ohio City businesses brough bike sharing to Cleveland, and additional businesses are ready to bring it to other near west side neighborhoods. Cycling is on the rise in Cleveland, and we are working to assist local businesses that want to support Cleveland's growing bike culture through a bike share program. Tremont West Development Corporation, Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization, Ohio City, Incorporated, and Bike Cleveland have joined together to help raise seed funding that will bring one station to each of these 3 neighborhoods. With your support, we will be able to build off of the remarkable work that has already been done to make Cleveland a more bike friendly city.
