June 22-27, I am biking 335 miles from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC along the Great Allegheny Passage and Chesapeake & Ohio Canal to raise awareness and money for achromatopsia research and funding for a cure. My son was born with this rare genetic eye disease and recent clinicial trials have made a future cure a possible reality. My goal is to raise $10 per mile or $3,350. Achromatopsia causes the complete absence of cone photoreceptor function, the cells in our retina we rely on to read, to drive, to see faces and color, and to generally navigate through life. Achromatopsia patients are day blind, have extreme sensitivity to light, poor acuity, nystagmus (rapid uncontrolled eye movements), and complete color blindness. All funds raised will go directly to Achroma Corp (achromacorp.org) towards advancing a cure. Thank you for your support.
