Training Bike Ride around Staten Island
May 03, 2017
BENEFITING: Sanctuary for Families
EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
On May 7th, I'll bike 40 miles around NYC to raise money and awareness for Sanctuary for Families. You can check out the work Sanctuary does on their website here, but in a nutshell, Sanctuary provides:
- Legal assistance (in immigration, family law, housing, public benefits)
- Clinical services (therapy, support groups, survivor-led programs)
- Job training classes (in administration and computer literacy, so that participants land living-wage jobs)
- Sanctuary operates a number of DV Shelters for individuals and families throughout NYC
I had the privilege of working for Sanctuary last year through my participation in the Avodah Service Corps. In addition to supporting and assisting clients with navigating the bureaucracies of public benefits, representing clients at administrative hearings, and supporting Sanctuary's housing attorneys, my year at Sanctuary has informed the way I understand trauma, gender-based violence, social services, poverty in NYC and the civil legal system.
With all that said, although I am no longer supporting Sanctuary through direct service, I'm thrilled to participate in this event again and continue to be involved in the great work Sanctuary does. Will you support me (supporting Sanctuary) by donating?
My goal is to raise $2,000 to support Sanctuary's crucial work in providing these crucial free legal, clinical and job training services to survivors of gender-based violence.
With much gratitude, love and appreciation,
