The coats cost $100 each and are made by a non-profit in Detroit that employs homeless and indigent people to make coats for the homeless. Together we can have these coats shipped to Billings and delivered to our homeless population with the help of the Montana Rescue Mission based in Billings, Montana. The city of Billings has more than 26% of Montana's homeless population. I have the privilege of being a public defender in Billings and I usually see a few homeless folks sleeping on the sidewalks during my morning walk to my downtown office. It's gotten to be very cold here, like minus fifteen below wind chill cold, so I have the privilege of driving to work. The homeless don't have that privilege but we can at least give them something warm to sleep in. Let's all give a little this holiday season for a real solution that helps our homeless stay the warmest they can in Billings.
