BENEFITING: Reading Partners
EVENT DATE: Jul 16, 2012
I have the opportunity to run the 2012 Badwater 135 Ultramarathon this July. I want to use this race to raise money and bring attention to a great volunteer program - Reading Partners. Every week I spend an hour teaching a struggling 2nd grader how to read. Teaching children how to read is not just a bandaid for a problem. You get to see a young person develop and grow to have all the opportunities in life they deserve, and it starts with literacy. We all have our personal challenges and dreams, and for 7 years, every day I've thought about running Badwater. Lucky for me, Reading Partners lets insane people who want to run 135 miles through the hottest place on earth during the hottest time of the year in 125 degrees from the lowest elevation in America at -280 feet to 8300 feet at the Whitney Portal and add the 22 mile climb to the peak of Mt Whitney at 14.5k feet and back have the opportunity to volunteer and raise money for charity.
