BENEFITING: THE OASIS & CLEAR
"THE MIRACULOUS STORY, BEAUTIFULLY TOLD, OF THE MEN WHO NAMED THE DISEASE & CREATED THE CURE." - MARTIN SHEEN
The Pittsburgh Foundation has given us a challenge-- Raise enough money to produce the play "Bill W. & Dr. Bob" in Pittsburgh, and they will donate $10,000 to help support the play.
BILL W. AND DR. BOB
In cities across the US, "Bill W. & Dr. Bob" has been performed to sold out houses and received rave reviews -- breaking box office records in 35 states! The play was the best selling season show at The Cleveland Play House. The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) awarded the play its “National Performing Arts Award".
And for good reason...the play provides a powerful history of the birth of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), which has saved millions of lives in the US and around the world. The play traces the painful, exhilarating path to sobriety of the stockbroker Bill Wilson and the surgeon Dr. Bob Smith, who teamed up with others to form AA. Like AA, this play also cuts across all ethnic, racial, and class differences, welcoming all from "Yale to Jail".
A local Pittsburgh artistic consortium, comprised of professional artists affected by addiction, will produce this play. At the creative helm, Melissa Martin and Adrienne Wehr, who have worked together for over 15 years on various projects, will create a soul searching and insightful production about the insanity of addiction and the hope that people can recover. In addition, Patrick Jordan and Bob Rueffle, among others, are passionately committed to bringing this special play to life on the Pittsburgh stage.
ADDICTION IS AMERICA'S NUMBER ONE HEALTH PROBLEM and causes more deaths, illnesses and disabilities than any other preventable health condition. Locally, over 250 people die each year from overdose deaths in Allegheny County.
Help us raise awareness during National Recovery Month (September) that people can and do recover from addiction and spread the "HOPE OF RECOVERY" across our region.
The Oasis Recovery Center is a 501c3 non-profit organization and together with The Coalition for Leadership, Education and Advocacy for Recovery (CLEAR) works to combat addiction in our community. All donations will go towards the production of this play and are tax deductible.
