BENEFITING: INTERNATIONAL PLANT GENETIC RESOURCES INSTITUTE
EVENT DATE: Sep 20, 2014
Bioversity International is based within the Comune di Fiumicino. This vast territory of 222 km² is rich in biodiversity. Here you can find the Litorale Romano nature reserve, the World Wildlife Fund Oasis, many traditional organic farms, the largest farm in Italy (Maccarese SpA) and forest land with ancient pine trees such as the Pineta di Fregene and Bosco Sacro di Torre in Pietra
Bioversity International staff has been collecting plant species from this area and has used them to establish a herbarium. A herbarium is a collection of dried and classified plant specimens. The Bioversity Herbarium can be viewed and consulted as a reference tool by anyone wishing to study the local flora. It is also open to contributions of additional specimens by anyone wishing to collaborate with Bioversity staff.
This first ever Run for Biodiversity registration fees will support the ’Bioversity International Herbarium‘ project, so please come along to support knowledge about our rich heritage of biodiversity.
