So, it's my birthday today. And as I take a minute to think about the reality of growing older, I am appreciative of so many who have impacted my life. My wonderful parents, husband, children, family and dear friends - and also those I have interacted with only briefly.
I'm also eternally grateful to the women sitting in that room in Dublin over 13 years ago, who saved me. From the depths - dark, black, endless depths - of postpartum depression. I. Had. No. Idea. Thank you. I learned to be a better person, mother, citizen because of you. The light I received, I knew, I had to extend to others.
And so, the thousands of mothers and families I've had the privilege to talk with over these 13 years have continued to be a gift. To see a woman in that darkness and know - truly know - that feeling, yet also wholeheartedly believe in her strength and beauty - is a gift I receive every day through my work with Perinatal Outreach & Encouragement for Moms (POEM).
In celebration and honor of all mothers - whose impact on all our lives is vast - I ask you to donate to POEM today. Small donations can make huge impacts. Your gift will help POEM provide vital, evidence-based support services to mothers and families in Ohio. Hear more about POEM in the video link on this page.
