Somaly doesn't know her real birthday. For her self-chosen birthday on April 2nd, we celebrate her brave life and groundbreaking activism, including programs like the anti-trafficking radio program.
In many regions of Cambodia, radio continues to be a primary mode of spreading information. On our anti-trafficking radio program, "Somaly's Family," Voices For Change leaders address the issue head-on, take calls from community members and victims, and feature special guests like lawyers and policy experts. The show is scheduled to begin again on April 1: but even local grassroots initiatives can use your help.
Here's what you can do:
Watch the one-minute video to the left, courtesy of Show of Force / Half the Sky movement, to see why radio matters;
Share this campaign Twitter and Facebook, as a solution to prevent modern slavery and mobilize grassroots change;
Give a birthday gift and join the Crowdrise team to help us reach our goal of $11,000, which can cover studio rental, airtime, and hosting for the year;
and finally, sign Somaly's birthday card (which will be delivered to her on April 2nd).
Together, we can build a world safe from slavery.
