Amanda Michaels-Zech's Fundraiser - Birthday Presents for CASA!
Every year when my birthday rolls around, I get a giddy feeling - just like when I was a little girl excitedly planning My Little Pony or Rainbow Brite themed parties, counting down the seconds to a birthday sleepover with my best friends, or anxiously awaiting my first boy-girl shindig (which no boys ended up attending - whoops!).
As a kid, birthdays were about the friends and family I would get to spend time with, choosing the very best flavor for my birthday cake, and opening presents!
As an adult, I still get excited to celebrate with friends and family, eat yummy birthday cake, and open gifts! But I also spend a lot of time thinking about all the little kids in our world who might not be growing up with the same opportunities to celebrate the way I did.
That's why this year for my birthday, I'd love for my friends, family, and fellow-Crowdrisers to join me in donating to CASA - a group of volunteers who work incredibly hard advocating for kids that are falling through the cracks.
I've seen up close how hard the CASA volunteers work. It's grueling - not just because it's time-consuming and there's a lot of red-tape to deal with, but because every case - every kid - requires you give a piece of your heart to them, their case, and their life. It takes a special person to be that dedicated, patient, and persistent... that willing to give so many pieces of their heart to other people. My mom's best friend Kathi is one of those people and I've watched her wonderful work as a CASA for years.
It may be demanding, but giving children in crisis more stability and the opportunity to be under the wing of someone who cares for them and will stick by them is worth all the effort!
And it's certainly worth a small donation from us to support all the good work they're doing!
That's why this year a donation to CASA seems like the perfect present to me! (To donate, just click on the orange DONATE button in the upper right hand corner of this page and your donation will go directly to CASA.)
Thanks for your support! And happy birthday to all the little kids around the world who are in need of a CASA this year!

A little more about CASA:
CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in inappropriate group or foster homes. Volunteers stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives.
Independent research has demonstrated that children with a CASA volunteer are substantially less likely to spend time in long-term foster care and less likely to reenter care.
