BENEFITING: Save the Children
My 25th birthday is coming. It is a significant one, and to celebrate, I want to do something special. And I would like to ask you to join with me.
At the end of 2013, December 30th to be exact, I had a dream. It was a peculiar one; one I do not dream often. In my dream God showed me Syria, and people dying in Syria, in great detail. With the horrific sight came the heavy burden, and my heart was filled with fear, grief, anger, horror… I woke up shivering.
For those of you who don’t know, Syria is having the biggest humanitarian crisis in decades. They are entering into the third year of its costly civil war, and over 100,000 people are dead. If you are like me and you don’t quite get the weight of that number, it is equivalent of the entire population of Cambridge, MA. Also, more than 2 million Syrians left the country to escape the war, and statistics says there is a new Syrian refugee every 15 seconds.
That's not the end. Half of those refugees are children. HALF! Children separated from their parents, subjected to child labor, abused, hurt, tortured, starved. Children, 1.1 million of them and still counting. Coincidently, Massachusetts, the State I live, have about 1.1 million children. Can you imagine ALL of Massachusetts’s children gone from the State? The kids at your school, youth group, neighborhood, gone. Not only gone but also in danger, living without parents, food, shelter, and safety. Keep in mind this number does not include children who are still in Syria or children who are already dead. This breaks my heart, but moreover this breaks God’s heart.
So, for my birthday, I ask you to pray with me for Syria.
Pray for the government.
Pray for peace talks.
Pray for the oppressors and the victims.
Pray for the refugees.
Pray for children.
Pray that in the midst of misery and terror, we can find hope and future in Jesus Christ.
Could you also give? This year, instead of buying me gifts or meals, could you give that money to Syria? You can give to any organization of your choice, but my favorite is Save the Children. You can either text “SAFE” to 20222 and one-time donation of $10.00 will be added to your mobile bill. Or you could give through this page, and money will go directly to Save the Children.
Thank you for celebrating my birthday with me by remembering Syria in your prayers and finances. And thank you for being a good friend.
