Birthday Squad Update - Faith & Mark!
January 05, 2017
We often forget how lucky we are to be able to celebrate with food, gifts, and laughter. For children living with homelessness, their lives are filled with uncertainty and struggle. They are focused on the necessities of survival; the luxury of a birthday party is something that is rarely, if ever, possible. This project is simple: throw birthday parties for homeless children.
There is an organization in Los Angeles called Genesis House - a shelter for single women and children who are transitioning out of homelessness. Their purpose is to provide a safe environment in which these families are empowered to live self-supporting and healthy lives by providing the structure needed to seek employment, save for the future, and move on to the next level of housing.
But they can't afford to throw birthday parties for the children. We want to fix that. Let's give each of these kids a day where they feel special. A day where they feel spoiled. A day where they don't have to worry about the future or think about the past. A day celebrating them at their own birthday party.
On August 30, 2015 we sponsored Samia's 7th birthday by delivering cake, pizza, juice boxes, and a Littlest Pet Shop gift set to Genesis House. Samia called it "the best day ever." Since then, we've birthday after birthday - with more to come! For continuous updates on our birthdays and pictures of the birthday kids, please see our facebook page HERE.
Throwing one of these birthdays costs around $100, thanks to the generosity of local businesses. So $100 is all we need to sponsor a great party for a child in need - bringing cake, pizza, drinks, gifts, and lots of balloons! In addition, we've recently launched our Book Treasure Chest - so every other child in the home can choose a book (or two or three!) of their own as a party favor!
Please consider supporting this effort, every small donation goes a long way to make a special day for a child who needs more of them.
