THE STORY:

Every child should have a chance to celebrate their special day but times are changing and families are now finding it hard to make ends meet. Many familes simply cannot afford to give their child a birthday party because all their funds have to go to basic living expenses. So many of the kids in families that are just getting by don't get to experience the joy of having a birthday party .
The birthday surprise package project consist of a GIANT box decorated in birthday wrapping filled with all the neccessary items for familes to throw their own birthday bash for their child. Inside will be: box of cake mix and frosting, disposable cake pans (2), candles, of course-can't have a cake without candles, party decorations (hats, balloons, streamers/hangers, birthday banner) party utensils (plates, napkins, table cloth, forks/spoons) disposable -to capture the memories and mini photo album, and last but not least -age appropriate birthday gift .
This project is important to me because I came from a single parent home with a mother that worked two jobs to support my sister and I and I know how hard it was for her to make things such as birthdays and holidays special for us. We didn't have much but she made sure that every birthday was celebrated -even if it was just cake and ice cream every year. Kids just want to feel special and should not be punished because of the families living and financial circumstances. I'm also a parent as well and understand now as a parent how hard life can be. Through raising my own kids and celebrating their birthdays I see the excitement in their eyes seeing the balloons and cake and singing happy birthday ...its amazing! And all children should have that experience as well.
